Chris Pratt contracts lung infections from ritual with Arnold Schwarzenegger

Chris Pratt revealed he contracted a lung infection after the births of three of his children because of a ritual with his father-in-law, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Parks and Recreation star, 45, shares 12-year-old Jack with ex-wife Anna Faris and Lyla, four, Eloise, two and three-month-old Ford with current wife Katherine Schwarzenegger. Chris, who has asthma, felt pressured to join Arnold in smoking a cigar after welcoming a baby into the world.

During his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, he told guest host Claudia Winkleman: "[Arnold] is a big cigar smoker – he's always smoking one on set, in his car, and in my living room. When we have a baby, he shows up with a Cuban cigar. I have asthma so I should not ever smoke cigars, but I do because I feel pressure from Arnold Schwarzenegger."

He continued: "So, every time I have a child, I have a cigar and about a week later I have a lung infection. It's a nice little ritual we have." During the same interview, he revealed his wife urged him to take on his upcoming movie, The Electric State. She pushed him to take on the project as he was ready to take a break.

He said: "It is epic with truly stunning imagery. I had wanted to turn it down because I'd just finished a busy season of work and had been away for a while. We have four kids, so I wanted to take an extended period off but when my wife read the script, she said I had to do it. She either really loves me or she actually just wanted me out of the house again."

Chris and Katherine welcomed their third baby in November last year. The Hollywood actor and wife Katherine shared their happy news with their followers. Katherine wrote: "We are overjoyed to announce the birth of our son, Ford Fitzgerald Schwarzenegger Pratt. Mama and baby are doing well and Ford’s siblings are thrilled by his arrival. We feel so blessed and grateful. Love, Katherine and Chris."

Marvel star Chris previously opened up on being a protective father. He spoke to Men's Journal, about starring in show The Terminal List that was inspired by Jack Carr's novel wherein the main character's family is murdered. Chris said: "Whenever you're put in a position, or even imagine a position, where those kids are in danger, your mind goes to wild places. I mean if I was put through the situations that James was in, I would probably do the same f****** thing," he candidly admitted. "I think that's why those storylines resonate so strongly with fathers."
