I am not ashamed to say that I am extremely attached to my Apple AirPods. Admittedly, there is not often a day I am seen on public transport without them and, if I don’t have them in, I’m mentally cursing myself for not having charged them the night before.
So, the prospect of venturing away from my trusty headphones did seem quite daunting at first.
However, I managed to get my hands on the Acefast Acefit Pro open-ear headphones prior to their release on January 13, and I may be swapping out my trusty AirPods in favour of these.
These headphones are available in four colours - grey, pink, green and purple - and in an attempt to live out my best Barbie fantasy, I had to opt for the pink. Upon unboxing, my initial reaction was to the LED display that caused the case to glow purple as I opened it. Futuristic and luxe-feeling, I was already impressed with the packaging of the Acefit Pro alone.
Featured on the top of the case is an ‘LED Floating Power Display’ which meant I could see my battery life from the get-go. Goodbye headphone-less public transport dread.
Now the main event: the headphones themselves. These differ from your stereotypical bluetooth earbuds as they sit around your ear rather than inside. This is ultra convenient for piercing lovers like myself who have to put up with the slight irritation of a headphone pressing up against a cartilage piercing.
But I think what I loved most about them was how lightweight these things are; I completely forgot they were on my ears. I have often found in the past that my headphones can start to become sore after a couple hours of wear and, with the Acefit Pro only weighing 7.6g per ear, I wasn’t concerned about this.
But now it was time for the true test: the sound quality. Honestly, with my rather varied music taste (from Cleo Sol to the Prodigy) I had to check how they performed across all genres. Despite my skepticism about the open ear feature, the sound was crystal clear. I was particularly impressed by the bass that was consistent on every album I tested it against.
Sitting around mid-range on the market at £89.99, I think these headphones are pretty reasonable considering the sound quality and impressive light display.
However, if you are after a cheaper option you can go for these JLab earbuds on Argos currently reduced to £17.49, or if you really want to splash the cash, you can get my trusty Apple AirPods 4 with noise cancellation, going for £169.
