Gladiators fans were left unimpressed as they spotted a major issue after one star claimed to make ‘history’.
The BBC's hit revival has captivated audiences since its return for a second season at the start of the year. During tonight’s (March 1) episode, hosts Bradley and Barney Walsh were back on our screens for the first round of the quarter-finals.
Viewers who tuned in saw the contestants go head-to-head to secure their place in the semi-finals as they tackled a number of events including the infamous Hang Tough.
However, it was Legend, whose real name is Matt Morsia, who had everyone talking. Hang Tough is one of the star's specialist events, as no contender has ever scored against him before.
But things didn’t go to plan for him tonight as fellow condenser Joe managed to beat him, which meant it was the first time he had ever lost the challenge.
It was clear that Legend didn’t take the loss well as he demanded another go on the rings. Turning to the audience he said: “I need another go. If I get on there again I’m telling you, it won’t happen again.”
He then went on to ask: “In fact, who would like to see me go up again right now?” Mus decided to take on Legends' offer and went up against him in the challenge.
Unfortunately, it was another loss for Legend as Mus made it to the other side in record time. Barney turned to Mus and said: "That is quite possibly the best Hang Tough performance I have ever seen.”
Ledged was unimpressed as Barney joked: “Legend. Two losses in a row. Double loss legend we like to call you in this situation.”
Back in the locker room, Legend attempted to look at the brighter side as he claimed: “That’s the first time anyone’s ever done two back-to-back Hang Toughs. I’ve made history. I’ve literally made history.”
His fellow co-star could be heard shouting in the background: “Under the titled “Double-Loss Legend.” Viewers watching at home were quick to share their reaction online and it didn’t take long for them to point out that it has been done before.
One viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “#Gladiators Legend making history by doing back-to-back Rings? …I remember the master. Saracen. Is he regularly done back to backs?.”
Another said: “LEGEND: "That's the first time anyone's ever done back-to-back Hang Tough" They did it in the original series all the time.”
A third pointed out: “Legend, nah not a patch on the original hang tough king - can’t remember Sara being beaten #Gladiators.” One joked: “BREAKING: Legend is to be renamed Loser due to his double Hang Tough loss.”
Meanwhile another added: “‘first time doing back-to-back hang toughs’ and the first one to lose as well you've lost bragging rights with that, Legend #Gladiators.”
