Jose Mourinho has had his ban and fine reduced for comments he made after Fenerbahce's 0-0 draw with rivals Galatasaray.
Just four points separate the two teams in a heated Super Lig title race and Mourinho is now suing Galatasaray after they accused him of making 'racist statements'. Mourinho was also sanctioned by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) after he hit out at Turkish referees at his post-match press conference.
Although Slovenian Slavko Vincic took charge of the game after both clubs requested a foreign referee, the fourth official was Turkish and Mourinho said he told him after the game that "if you were a referee, this match would be a disaster".
The TFF subsequently gave Mourinho a four-match ban and a £35,000 fine, but those sanctions have now been reduced to a two-match ban and a £12,200 fine after an appeal. They said: "(Mourinho's) statements made at the press conference after the match and which are the subject of the referral were referred to our Board within the scope of Article 41 of the FDT.
"Considering the nature of the statements, it was determined that the statements used towards the members of the opposing team, were not mandatory, were contrary to the ethics of sports and the concept of fair play, contained expressions that could encourage violence and disorder in sports, were divisive and separatist in society and could cause fan incidents, and it was deemed an act against sportsmanship."
Mourinho also claimed that the Galatasaray bench had been "jumping like monkeys" during the game, which prompted them to accuse the former Manchester United and Tottenham boss of racism.
"Since the commencement of his managerial duties in Turkey, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people," they said in a statement.
"Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric. We hereby formally declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and shall accordingly submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA."
Fenerbahce, though, insist that Mourinho's comments had been were "taken completely out of context and deliberately distorted" by Galatasaray and that they should "in no way be associated with racism".
Mourinho has also filed a lawsuit against Galatasaray in response, with a statement from Fenerbahce reading: "We would like to announce that a lawsuit for non-pecuniary damages of 1 million 907 thousand Turkish Liras (£42k) has been filed against Galatasaray by Jose Mourinho. This is through Fenerbahçe lawyers due to the attack on the personal rights of our manager."
