Amelia Dimoldenberg is set to return to The Oscars red carpet as an official correspondent and social media ambassador for the ceremony.
The Chicken Shop Date creator will once again bring her signature interview style to Hollywood’s biggest night, engaging with nominees and attendees in her distinct, lighthearted manner. Jennifer Davidson, the Academy’s head of marketing and communications, explained the decision to bring Dimoldenberg back for a second year: “Her lighthearted, humorous approach results in relatable, authentic moments,” she told the Associated Press.
“Last year’s content throughout Oscars season was so well received, it only made sense to ask her back for a second year.” Dimoldenberg, 31, has built a significant following through her interview format, which blends comedy with genuine interactions. Originally focused on interviewing musicians, her show expanded into film when Daniel Kaluuya appeared in 2020.
This shift led to more Hollywood figures participating, including Andrew Garfield, whose 2022 red carpet interview with Dimoldenberg became widely shared online.
Speaking about the growth of Chicken Shop Date, Dimoldenberg reflected on the long process of establishing her presence in the industry. “I always thought it was going to be a hit, if I’m honest,” she said.
“I just thought it was a great idea, and I always wanted to be interviewing the biggest stars in the world. It just took 10 years to get there.” As she prepares for her second year on the Oscars carpet, Dimoldenberg acknowledged the challenges of conducting quick interviews in a fast-paced environment: “I love the challenge of it — having 90 seconds with someone and you have to get something incredible.”
“There’s a conveyor belt of celebrities, so if you love celebrity interviews, it’s kind of the best place to be.” She has a list of people she hopes to speak with at this year’s ceremony, including nominees Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Adrien Brody, Kieran Culkin, Jesse Eisenberg, and Mikey Madison.
While her YouTube interviews benefit from post-production edits that enhance the humor and awkwardness, live red carpet interviews require a different approach. She explains: “Sometimes people I’ve met for the very first time I could have an incredible rapport with, and they kind of are pleasantly surprised by my style in a way that’s fun and refreshing,” she said.
Dimoldenberg’s red carpet coverage will be available on the Academy’s social media channels, including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. “I’m just really excited to be back again for the Oscars,” she said. “It’s kind of amazing to be asked back for a second year. It’s an amazing opportunity to, like, go bigger and better than last year.”
