What happened to the cast of Soldier, Soldier? From joining a commune to Hollywood awards triumph...

IT'S 27 years since the final episode of Soldier, Soldier aired - and some of its stars have gone onto big things.

The hit drama, which ran for seven series in the 90s, followed the lives of soldiers in the British Army.

It was set against the backdrop of the fictional 1st Battalion The King's Fusiliers.

Almost three decades on from its axe by ITV, Soldier, Soldier's cast have well and truly moved on.

Keep scrolling as we chart their lives and careers since the hit series came to an end...

Jerome Flynn - Lance Corporal Patrick Garvey

Soldier, Soldier catapulted Jerome to household fame thanks to his role in the show.

However, he left the show five series in and appeared to vanish from the showbiz world.

Years later he reappeared, landing a role in Game of Thrones as Bronn and also starred in ITV's Ripper Street as well as the BBC's The Trick.

These days Jerome lives on a remote Welsh farm in Pembrokeshire after previously living in a commune in London.

Robson Green - Fusilier David Tucker

The star became a heartthrob in the 90s after shooting to fame as fusilier Dave Tucker in drama Soldier Soldier.

However, it came at a cost, with Robson revealing his battles with drink and drugs.

He told the Mirror: “I was just 26 years old when real fame came knocking at my door with a drama called Soldier Soldier watched by 21 million people.

“I was enjoying fame. I was enjoying recognition, I was enjoying all the approval. I was enjoying the awards, I was enjoying the parties, I was enjoying the drinking and everything else that went with fame.

"I started having real problems with fame and alcohol and drugs.”

His fishing hobby became part of his career years later with him hosting Extreme Fishing with Robson Green on Channel 5.

And he reinvigorated his career in the new century with lead roles in crime dramas Wire in the Blood and Grantchester.

Annabelle Apsion - Joy Wilton

Annabelle played civilian Joy in Soldier, Soldier for the first five series before departing the drama.

She is most known though for her role on smash-hit drama Shameless, starring as Monica Gallagher.

Decades since, Annabelle has starred in Jack The Ripper thriller From Hell alongside Johnny Depp and Robbie Coltrane.

Her more recent appearances include Call the Midwife, Doc Martin and Father Brown.

Denise Welsh - Martha Stubbs

Denise only starred in just two out of the show's seven series but still made her mark.

The Loose Women panellist previously told how she had to steal her friend's identity to land her role as Marsha as the casting director didn't want to cast anymore Geordies.

Flash-forward to now, Denise has paved an impressive acting career for herself.

She's held roles in Coronation Street and Hollyoaks as well as Waterloo Road.

In 2023 Denise played Queen Elizabeth II in Diana: The Musical.

Rosie Rowell - Donna Tuckerm

Rosie played Donna, who was Robson Green's on-screen partner throughout Soldier, Soldier.

Her acting success came after she ran away to London at the age of 16 to pave a career for herself.

Since her stint in the drama, Rosie has gone onto have roles in The Bill and Where The Heart Is.

Rosie also played Eileen Callan in Channel 5 soap Family Affairs and starred in Casualty.

Holly Aird - Corporal Nancy Thorpe

Holly's character Nancy was the girlfriend, and later wife of Paddy Garvey before the pair divorced.

Her role as the corporal catapulted her into the mainstream and she later starred on Channel 4 drama Secret Life.

Just like her co-star Rosie, Holly also held a role in the BBC's Casualty, playing Laura Merriman.

Ben Nealon - Captain Jeremy Forsythe

Ben starred as Captain Forsythe for four out of the seven series of Soldier, Soldier.

Again, like many of his counterparts, Ben since went onto appear in The Bill, Casualty and Bugs.

His other work includes a stint in EastEnders as Alex Harkinson as well as the now axed medical soap opera Doctors.

Gary Love - Sergeant Tony Wilton

Gary starred in Soldier, Soldier for just four series before his character Sergeant Tony Wilton was brutally killed off.

Despite his acting success in the 90s, Gary now focuses his attention to working behind the camera.

His talents earned him a nomination for best director at the Edinburgh Film Festival for his debut feature film ‘Sugarhouse’.

Gary left the UK and now resides in Los Angeles.
